INLAND GREEN

    INLAND GREEN

Through inland green of trees
is seen at dusk a pale lemon
light that once was damask
at the sea that can’t be seen
nor heartbeat heard  except
in recollection, like Housman’s
blue remembered hills.
But don’t compare;
beauty’s here,  perceived
through windows now less wide.
