SKY SKETCHES

SKY SKETCHES

Sunset explodes
in lemon orange,
topped with bars
of fuchsia gray.

The sky is why
we’re given eyes,
especially
at this time of day.

**************

Horizon rim at dusk,
old sky lingers long
in rusty peach patina.
Along the beach
each silhouette in black
contains a tale
all its own.

Perhaps we’ve seen
this seascape
at the Louvre
and wonder
who is aping whom.

****************

At night in charcoal sky
the stars come out to play:
Syrius and Mars,
the Hunter and his sword,
and to the west
a silver slice of melon.

And we are part
of all of this,
to give it name,
to give it fame.
