HARBINGER
Not a bird
but a leaf
wearing cardinal red,
announcinig the end
of summer,
advent of autumn
when worn-out green
will give way
to a new world
aflame in russet and gold,
and human hearts raised
from the nadir of ingratitude
will sing praise and thanks
to the giver of all these gifts.
