BEACH SONG
Can’t see the sea,
a
wall has come between us.
“Take
down this wall,” he said,
and down it came.
And now I see the sea
wearing horizontal stripes
of sapphire and emerald,
electric blue of beach umbrellas,
burnished gold of youthful bodies,
halcyon heights of children at play.
Sun, sea, and sand,
and
these silent words
longing to be voiced.
