THE APPLE

     THE APPLE

I ate an apple in the afternoon,

an afternoon in early April

(and thought of you),

unforbidden, no restrictions,

healthy and delicious.

And then recalled

the apple of our first parents;

He failed to warn them

of the serpent

or all the consequences,

even though He knew.

Let’s hope the author

got the story wrong.
