TE DEUM

      TE DEUM

He never knew
what he was looking for
until he found it
on the way out,
decided to stay around awhile
with no regrets
over the wasted years;
it wasn’t he
but captive aliens
inside his body.

And now he knew
that no one owns the earth,
perhaps a piece or two
on temporary loan;
but the sky,
the sky was his
in all its shades of blue—
cerulean, cyan, topaz,
sapphire, indigo, teal—
to name but a few.

Now all the fragments fit:
oneness, wholeness,
and peace at last.
