BEACH NOTES

       BEACH  NOTES

         Sea and Sun

The sea is a loving mother,
cleansing bodies, lifting spirits
as her children frolic
in the heart of happiness;
then late the sun
intensifies all colors
like lights turned on within.

           New Day

Day is new and so are you,
fresh as the first wave to reach the shore.
“…begin and cease and then again begin…”
(“Dover Beach,” in case you want to look it up.)
You are finite, but child of infinity,
who made you and did not desert you.
You have nothing to fear,
no need for greed,
so just relax
in the rhythm of the universe,
which is most apparent
here at the sea
which speaks
to the rhythm within.

             Rain

The rain plays tag with the sea—
little sister/big sister, a family reunion.
Sea birds fly askew, pelicans in precision.
Beach runners crisscross
in silent brotherhood, sisterhood,
or whatever hood you choose
since language has been sacrificed
at the Queen of He-or Sheba’s altar.
The rains came, the rains went, the rains came again.

  1. How wonderful to see all these post-surgical poems. We are so glad you got to have a seaside convalescence. We hope the muse keeps visiting.
    Love,
