RAMBLING ROSE

  RAMBLING ROSE

The red of red lights,
the green of green lights,
function without unction,
beauty unperceived.

Land of forgotten dreams,
theater unseen,
no curtain calls,
absence of applause.

Lift  your eyes to the skies,
the changing blues of day,
the fretted stars of night.

Beware of fads.
Dare to be different,
dare to be yourself.
You are unique.

WOUNDED MOON

WOUNDED MOON

Flower Moon of May
rises full
and fiery red
but wounded now,
slammed a week earlier
by a space  rock
traveling 56,000 miles an hour,
creating a 65-ft crater,
flash seen from Earth,
but damage not visible tonight.

Next life I’m going
to live on the Moon,
design a system
to deflect  incoming meteoroids
and a second to quickly
fill in craters
when the first one fails.

CAVEAT

            CAVEAT

Just when one thought
the muse was running out of ink,
along came an inspiration
all dolled up in Biblical metaphor:

Pay no attention to the Serpent
   and its many offspring
   disguised as human beings,
   so facile in falsehood
   they actually believe
   everything they say;

   trust only what resides
   deep within your soul,
   remembering Mammy’s maxim:

“Ever since Granny ate that apple,
I ain’t listnen to no talkin snakes.”

ODE TO JOY

ODE TO JOY

These words
are knocking
at your door,
asking in,
hoping our minds
can dance
a two-step
to the rhythm
of the universe,
laughing all the way
through golden fields
of metaphor,
leaving behind
the world
with all its woes.

CHOO CHOO

 CHOO CHOO

The long ride
along the rails
nearing the end,
the name of the train
about to come in view.

Wholeness cannot be gained
by bringing the pieces together
but by letting them go.

Words are a habit
hard to overcome.

OTHER'S DAY

    OTHER’S DAY

Yesterday was Mother’s Day;
today is Other’s Day.
You dwell twenty-four hours a day
inside your body,
inside your head,
and everyone else does the same,

You are other to them;
they are other to you,
and everyone is different.

Why not dwell
on this individuality,
this uniqueness
as a gift to yourself
on this feast
of Other’s Day?

THE YELLOW LEAF

THE YELLOW LEAF

Your days are in
the yellow leaf,
you wonder if
you could have done better.

Don’t rue the past;
you did your best.
Good, better, best
are relative terms
like up and down—
even when the earth
is upside down,
the sky’s still up
and heaven too.

So face the future
with confidence—
you will do your best.
Just smile, relax, and
swing for the fences,
unless, of course,
a bunt
is being called for.

REPEAT

     REPEAT

Some say that I repeat,
repeat,
     repeat
        myself,
 but I am unaware,
                   aware,
                       aware.
.
Oops,
I dropped
the un ,
must be aware.

What should I do?
Zip the lip
or go upstairs
to find
something new
for the few
who always enjoy
this mind-music
of light
and laughter?

CINCO DE MAYO

   CINCO DE MAYO

Everything is what it is
until we slap a name on it
and toss it into
the pot of interpretation,
mélange of meanings.

Let’s slow down,
relax and absorb
the beauty that surrounds us:
the Morning Star and  Full Moon,
Sirius and the Setting Sun,
the music of the Masters,
the paintings of the Impressionists.

The dazzling
sounds and colors
of all creation
await to refresh
our frazzled souls.

A POSSIBILIAN'S DREAM

A POSSIBILIAN’S DREAM

Two for today, two for tomorrow,
and two for Monday morning

If God ,
is anywhere,
then He is everywhere
there is a where,
even in the seemingly
silly words above.

He’s  too big to fit in us,
so we must fit in Him;
it’s all a matter of mind,
it’s the connection
that’s important
and unique in every case.

How did we miss it?
If not the captain
at least the willing captive
on a vessel headed
in the wrong direction.

But now perhaps at last,
late, late but not too late,
the  long awaited
melding of the minds
steering the new voyage.
