OF GUILT AND INNOCENCE

OF GUILT AND INNOCENCE

Guilty, guilty,
even guilty of innocence,
afraid to make a mistake,
afraid of hurting someone’s feelings,
toed the line set out for him in babyhood

when of a sudden
the burden was lifted,
a light broke through,
free now,
free to walk his own line,
live his own life,

removed his prison garb,
ran through the woods
in priapic splendor,
innocent, innocent,
even now of guilt,
allied at last
with the evening star,
the full moon
and all of nature.
